One of These Days "One of these days I’m gonna love me." One of these days My soul will be set free. On that day my soul will soar. Like a song flung by a mourning spirit To an uncaring, destructive storm. A spirit who knows it can lose no more. My soul will cry out like the unbroken spirit of the bird on wing. A howl will not be more demanding of notice than that cry. I‘ll race toward the end in anticipation Of my fields and forests promised me, Of running without ever having to stop, Of I and the animals understanding each other. No mansions do I want or need. I’ll sleep under the canopy Of a moss covered forest floor. With birds that will sing all day, And bees that have no sting. Perhaps this poem will be preserved, And I’ll read it when I’m up there And laugh, and say to myself, "What fancies I had." Inspired by the song One Of These Days by Tim McGraw
